REGISTRATION & IMMUNIZATIONS

If you are new to the area or have a child who will be entering kindergarten in the fall, this page contains all the information you will need to register your child for this coming school year. 

REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS

Visiting your child’s new school campus can help put jittery feelings at ease—both yours and your child’s! Stop by the school to turn in all necessary registration forms and documentation. When you come, please bring the following documentation:

• Child’s original birth certificate
• Immunization records
• Proof of residency
• Withdrawal forms (if transferring from another school)

NEW FRONTIER HIGH SCHOOL ENROLLMENT CRITERIA

Students who face one or more of the following obstacles to learning in a traditional setting may apply to NFHS.

• Behind in credits
• Personal or family health
• Dropped out of school
• Home schooled
• Learning disabilities
• Limited English proficiency
• Unable to function in a traditional school environment for reasons other than those cited above

Students are not eligible to apply to NFHS if they are currently suspended or expelled from LCSD #1 or if they are court-placed.

KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION

Canyon Elementary School will hold kindergarten registration/screening for the following school year in early April. This allows parents and students to participate in the kindergarten screening process.

Students entering kindergarten must be 5 years old by September 15 of the current year. Parents should bring the following documentation:

• An up-to-date immunization record
• A copy of the child’s birth certificate
• Kindergarten Orientation Parent Packet

DEVELOPMENTAL KINDERGARTEN

We will place new students entering our school system in kindergarten or developmental kindergarten, based on the kindergarten screening assessments. Children who attend the developmental kindergarten program may be in kindergarten the following school year. We determine placement by considering KCDC recommendations, Crayola Crayons pre-school recommendations, and the LCSD#1 kindergarten screening results.

Students may exit or enter the developmental kindergarten classroom during the school year by recommendation from the classroom teacher. We make the decision about exiting or entering sometime between November 1 and February 1. We limit class enrollment to 15 students. If the class is not full, qualifying requests for this class will be on a first-come, first-served basis.
