Band/Choir

Fifth Grade Band

This class offers a disciplined yet fun environment to allow students to experience band at the beginning level. The instruments students may start are flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, baritone, tuba, and percussion. The only instrument that requires previous piano experience is percussion. Students will learn how to read and write music, compose, improvise simple melodies, and evaluate music. The students will present concerts in the fall, holiday, spring, and at the end of the year.

Why join band?

Sixth Grade Band

Developing all of the skills required to be a self-sufficient musician takes years and years of practice and hard work. Sixth grade band is where students start to expand on the basic knowledge they learned in fifth grade band. Students will be able to demonstrate key signatures that are more advanced, sight read basic rhythms, play intermediate rhythms, and play the chromatic scale. Students will learn to listen to each other and play more as a team. Depending on the group, sixth grade band will perform at a festival in May for judges. In addition to the yearly festival, students will present concerts in the fall, holiday, spring, and at the end of the year.
